Common Rail High-pressure Pump

Solution

Another view of the common rail high-pressure pump with three pistons from the back to the front. Nicely visible the sealing in the eccentric shaft towards the front. Also two of the pistons with their relatively small filling spaces are visible. The external gear pump at the end for the delivery of the fuel to the high-pressure pump is half cut open. Nevertheless, the suction connection on the other side is on top on the left. Below the high- pressure connection stands out partly.

There are still other possibilities of fuel supply for common rail systems. The external gear pump powered by the engine camshaft is one. Another more recent possibility is the electric pump in the fuel tank. 09/08
