Balcony Power Plant 1

How do you explain that to someone? We don't even know how that ad ended up on our computer. It just suddenly appeared. We never would have thought we'd invest in home storage, after all, that's why we bought the electric car.

However, we had probably thought that connecting it to the house would go a little faster. But Vehicle To Load is by no means sufficient enough. And our car doesn't even have that. Sure, the path to its 64-kWh battery is short, but it's also dangerous.

So far, we haven't been able to identify any viable solution, only very expensive ones, such as smart meters, which are also only available in very limited quantities. And then what do you get? You can buy electricity at a lower price, saving a few cents here and there.

On top of that, there’s a policy that doesn’t really make much headway on climate change either. Up to this point, it seems to have annoyed us more than we were willing to admit. On top of that, there’s the latest news that electricity prices are set to rise.

All this constant advertising for heat pumps is really getting on our nerves. As if there were nothing better for existing homes than to replace all the radiators. There's just another lobby at work here, and the federal government is even heavily subsidizing the whole thing.

No, we don't want to fill out forms, provide proof of our income, or undergo an energy consultation and a hydraulic balancing test. Our gas heating system works well, but we plan to replace it gradually and thus cost-effectively.

So what does that have to do with the offer above? You won't believe it, but we actually let ourselves be swayed by the steadily dwindling number of units still available and snapped one up before they were all sold out.

How could anyone do something like that? Who knows if there really are so few units left on the market? Maybe they'll be offering 100 units again the week after next, and we've let ourselves be taken by surprise. And anyway, what kind of company is that?

Well, you can ask ChatGPT about the latter which is not affiliated with or related by marriage to the company Solakon in Schwäbisch Hall, for which we receive no compensation for mentioning it here. The AI is cautious, but cites several reviews available online and, in principle, gives the all-clear.

We're a little relieved; it looks like we don't have to worry about our 4,000 euros. Yes, that’s how much it costs to have a sudden thought on a Tuesday morning or afternoon. And what do you get for that? In short, 2,000 W of solar power and 12.66 kWh of storage.

And we made up our minds about this within a few hours, because these prices completely turned our perception of the possibilities for our house, which is over 50 years old, on its head. We had had completely different, and therefore unrealistic, prices in mind for this scenario.

But other people must have felt the same way we did, because the number of units that had apparently been sold dropped dramatically throughout the day, so we have to assume that such an offer will no longer be available tomorrow. But there are also people who bought models with significantly less storage and therefore at a lower price.

However, when it comes to balcony power plants, not everything that glitters is gold. So if, after reading this report, you feel tempted to accept an offer that might seem just as good, hold off and wait until this series of articles is finished.
