  Wheels - load capacity 2

There is this car is parking in front of me and I can photograph it calmly. How could anyone leave it in this condition? Going over the curb at such an angle is bad enough, but staying where you are is just as bad. And then maybe fly over the autobahn at up to 200 km/h afterwards?

At this point we want to tie in with the previous chapter again, especially the part with the caravan. The same applies to the tires of mobile homes. You have to know that their tires are actually planned for vans, within very narrow economic limits, by the way. However, a van does not always drive around with the heavy weight of a mobile home.

And then the loading. There are people who carry everything with them just because it's 5 cents cheaper at home than on vacation. And at the back several mountain bikes, maybe even mopeds or motor scooters. Sure, one has auxiliary springs at the back, they can take it. But you don't think about the fact that they lean against the tires. Vans with this rear axle load often have twin tires for good reason.

And the amount of storage space that such a mobile home offers. Impossible to put every single thing on the scales. The weighing of the entire vehicle does not take place either, it is already too late anyway. And then an overstrained tire bursts. In most cases, even the wheel housings are so thin-walled that items deposited in the storage boxes are also affected. Lucky if you can bring the vehicle to a standstill at all.

A higher load index, if offered, is definitely a good choice when replacing RV tires, and regular tire pressure checks are anyway. But an airy cover of the tires is also recommended for a somewhat longer camping stay. Should the stay extend beyond the time of year, the tires and possibly also the suspension should be relieved by jacking them up.

In the city, such a motorhome is difficult to maneuver, especially if you are used to a not so big car. Actions like the one at the top of the picture, namely driving over curbs at an acute angle, are of course even more critical with such vehicles. Tires with an additional rubbing strake (picture below) help to prevent the sides from rubbing against curbs.
