 Hydroelectric power steering

It represents an intermediate step, does it without mechanical connection to the combustion engine, but still needs the hydraulic circuit. Thus, it is more compact than the purely hydraulic power steering. Pump, oil tank and control are combined usually into one unit. However, the somewhat extensive maintenance instructions for hydraulic systems even remain.

Mainly there is still the wedge or V-belt, too, only slightly shorter. A big advantage of the installation, it is no longer dependent on engine running. Rolling with the internal combustion engine switched off is possible now, the first power steering, which cooperates with hybrid technology. It represented a transition until one mastered sensitive support also directly with an electric drive.

A good example for the difficulties of direct control by electric motors is the operation of the clutch. Therewith reverse parking was very difficult. Either the electrical support was too strong or too weak. A gently acting clutch foot is just hard to replace by electronics.
