As far as this is possible for a car, it sees itself more as the successor to the 1932 Fiat Balilla than the 1949 1100 E. The early 1100 model was a kind of resurrection of the automobile for a wider circle of people shortly after the Great Depression.

However, the Balilla did not become the 1100 until 1937. Incidentally, both created a door concept that was by no means identical, but also not in every case corresponding to today's design, with the front and rear doors or both doors hinged on the B-pillar.

This contrasts strikingly with the more streamlined design of the old model. Of course, what is truly special about the ‘Nuova’ is its self-supporting body, that it weighs around 100 kg less when empty, resulting in fuel savings and better acceleration.

The special balancing of the crankshaft, the modified carburetor with new fuel delivery, and of course the independent front suspension and slightly refined rear suspension are also celebrated. It has a spare tire that is strangely positioned high up in the luggage compartment and, in the higher-end models, a heater, which was by no means standard in 1953.

The 1100 Turismo Veloce appears at the Paris Motor Show with 35.5 kW (48 hp) and a compression ratio of 7.4:1, and soon afterwards with 7.6:1 and even 37 kW (50 hp), enabling it to reach speeds of up to 135 km/h. The cardan shaft is now also divided into two parts.

The windshield is now larger and curved, and the rear wings are more striking with modified taillights. The new model is immediately recognizable by the single fog light in the middle of the radiator grille. In addition to '1100 TV', there is also the inscription 'Fiat Carrozzerie Speciali'.

It also has modified hubcaps and often whitewall tires, is always painted in two colors, with contrasting colors for the rims and roof, a two-spoke steering wheel, carpeted floor, and the more elaborately colored bench seat of the higher trim level.

Class victory in the Mille Miglia in 1954 and 1955, overall victory in Cape Town–Algiers in 1954.
