This was an attempt at reviving Alfa's ailing heart. Alfa is obviously free to help itself to whatever it wants from the company's shelves. It is not so much Maserati, where this is also done, as Ferrari that is the
'victim' of the 'looting'.
It did not derogate the brand, especially since their prices were higher, although not as much as one might expect given the difference between the two brands. Perhaps this was the first possible point of
criticism. Alfa is simply not Ferrari.
Alfa Romeo is competing with BMW and Audi. Maserati also seems to fail against Ferrari. A successor to the Tipo 33 Stradale (pictured above) was even announced for 2023. To date (2025), there's been no
sign of it. Alfa obviously has other concerns.

The MiTo was a more serious competitor. It offered a wealth of features even as standard, while still being reasonably priced. It was initially available as a gasoline car with MultiAir technology and
turbocharging, producing 100 kW (135 hp) and a top speed of 206 km/h despite its 1.4-liter displacement.
With the selector switch in the right position, it took off like a rocket. For the first time, we had an Alfa with reasonable fuel consumption. The diesel engine, also offered in the first series, could also be
equipped with MultiAir. This new technology was said to have teething issues.
What followed? There was the superbly styled Giulietta of 2010, the successor to the 147, but not further developed since then, plus the once again extremely sporty Giulia in 2017 with a V6, twin-turbo, 75 kW
(510 hp) and rear-wheel drive.
The 2017 Stelvio SUV was equipped with the same engine and optional all-wheel drive. Today, the combustion engine version of the Junior model is available starting at around €30,000, while the electric
version with a 54 kWh battery and 100 kW charging capacity costs €40,000.
The design, which is the responsibility of the new Centro Stile at the Mirafiori plant near Turin, has already begun to polarize. That's a good thing, because the Giulia's front end can't be sold forever. The rear is actually quite
pleasing and offers relatively generous luggage space. The Tonale can only be ordered as a mild hybrid, another SUV, albeit smaller than the Stelvio.
