  Ferrari - Scuderia 2

Do you notice anything? No. Not even when we shout 'Rapallo' to you? Now it begins to dawn on you perhaps. Yes, Alfa Romeo's famous four-leaf clover has been replaced by the jumping horse on a yellow background. He had dared. And he has done it again and again, paired with a painting of the vehicles in significantly darker red. These were very small signs of detachment.

How did it come about? Well, Vittorio Jano had designed the new P3, more than competitive, as the season showed. But it was reserved for the works team only. Add to that the top drivers, plus Rudolf Caracciola, so that Ferrari and its weakened team couldn't take part in any really important Grand Prix.

The greatest emotions were the new 24 hours of Spa-Francochamps, which his team promptly won with the remaining 8C. And right here, on still unimportant terrain, Ferrari rehearsed the uprising, had its cars start under the Rapallo. It didn't bring him any disadvantages at Alfa, at most advantages because of the victory at Spa.

And then again, perhaps typical of Italy, after all the offer of a P3 with Nuvolari as a driver at the Coppa Acerbo, which he promptly won. The whole thing turned out to be an exception, which indeed led to 26 victories in 50 races at the end of the year, but not exactly in the first division.

In 1933, just as unexpectedly, Alfa’s GP racing division was completely dissolved. And anyone who now believed that Ferrari would inherit the remaining P3, along with the greater transfer of responsibility for Alfa racing, was mistaken. It wasn't the first time that Ferrari had quarreled with its mother company, but it must have been intense this time.

Nonetheless, Nuvolari managed a race that was exciting to the end in Monaco on an outdated 8C against the second best Italian Varzi on a Bugatti. The latter won indeed, but once again the class of Tazio Nuvolari showed itself. 1933 was also the year of the completely manipulated lottery in connection with the Tripoli GP, at which Ferrari must have been inaugurated, but this could not be proven to him.

It was going downhill with the team. Nuvolari and other top drivers looked for other companies, e.g. Maserati. That could be concealed, but at some point it dawned on Alfa that it would be better to finally supply Ferrari with the held back P3. From the very bottom up again. One can imagine what the responsible boss Ferrari went through.

Louis Chiron was worth mentioning as the new driver. Incidentally, one of today's Bugattis is named after him. Typically for racing, that heights do not last forever, a catastrophe occurred in Monza. The happened to Campari and Borzacchini whose tires touched at high speed, which threw the drivers out of the car without any chance due to the uncontrollable movements.

And when another driver died in a race in Naples, this time at the end of the year the joy of the victories was very restrained. After all, one represented the facility almost completely now. Talented mechanics, including the later important Luigi Bazzi, also switched to Scuderia.
