Robots

Stefan Lenz (YouTube) quotes Bernie Sanders on the subject of AI and robots (see video), focusing more on the latter. Now we've just changed our minds about AI because
ChatGPT helped us create a program to convert text to speech.
Since then, we can imagine that such a system could one day replace skilled workers in the field of teaching, surpassing them in patience, perseverance, understanding, and even friendliness. But would that also be the
case with robots?
Let's do a test. I imagine that, due to some stroke of fate, which heaven forbid, I suddenly have to live alone. In a practical way, not with the usual hurrah attitude. Let's focus on a single day and ask the usual questions.
I am a typical night owl and enjoy the peace and quiet to gather my thoughts. On the other hand, that means I get up really late. So my personal robot would have a long break if I can't think of any additional tasks for it.
How do I get my breakfast, which I obviously don't want to make myself? Two special rolls, known locally as 'Röggelchen', taken out of the freezer and toasted to within at least half a minute of perfection. Plus half a cup of
coffee with frothed milk.
Then definitely muesli, here with half a cup of slightly warmed milk. All of this on a large tray on the table in the dining room, which is separated from the living room. Stop, whose glass pane is protected by
partial fabric sets.
Can it manage that? I mustn't meet it at the narrowest point on the way to the kitchen. We wouldn't be able to get past each other. Because I get up late, people may ring the doorbell and want something from me. Will he be
able to record that and report back to me?
If not, then it's of no use to me. Will he go shopping on its own afterwards? Walking about 250 m up the hill? Or does it need a car in which it can store all the belongings? Robots in an autonomous vehicle, is such a thing
even possible?
I'm imagining it putting the chip in the shopping cart, but to make matters worse, it doesn't do it. And then through the store. Can it also exchange an empty crate of water for a full one, or call for an attendant if it is not
working?
What if they are robots too? Counts the money at the cash register and may ask for cash because it was forgotten to go to the bank? How does the robot stow its wallet, how does it protect itself from criminal robots?
At home, it should sort the laundry. Or did I already do that when I was getting undressed? How many baskets do I need there? Well, it can probably hang up laundry, but what about ironing? Do I have to provide it with all
the utensils, including an ironing board?
And he really does put all of that away in the closet? Does it clean and vacuum the rooms, including cleaning the windows from time to time? In the evening, it prepares a meal of my choice, checks the supplies
beforehand, cleans and washes vegetables. Make sure nothing burns, serve with grace.
What do I do if it's so fast that I can't think of anything to say? Play Halma with it so it doesn't get bored? Where is it at night when I'm lounging in my cozy bed? Does the also need to be inspected regularly, like my electric
car, or do technicians come to my home?
Will it sit next to me when I go on vacation? Do I have to pay for it at all if it doesn't use the bed or breakfast? Would it wait for me at the valley station when I went skiing? What if it gets kidnapped?
