Risks of the software 3

Data are now moving through space, independent even of the presence of atmosphere. Can anyone join in this 'conversation'? Of course, it is even possible to interrupt and start a new conversation.
Many people who are currently involved in computing are experiencing steps toward two-factor authentication. Is this a coincidence, or are hackers currently enjoying greater success? From the very beginning, one doesn't
want to let them into conversations at all.
Although, eavesdropping cannot be prevented in the first place, even with as many authentications as possible. However, it is currently still quite possible to prevent people from understanding the information by encrypting
it. Unfortunately, however, this is no longer a cure for the lifespan of a car.
Why? Put simply, almost any encryption can be circumvented by trying any number of times. So one of the dangers is a generation of ultra-fast (quantum) computers,
which may not have been taken into account when the algorithms were created.
It is similar to the warranty for airbag deployment, which is often said to last only 10 years. This means that all airbags would have to be replaced after this period, which, given the age of the vehicle, would amount to a total
economic loss.
No manufacturer would replace control units in ten-year-old cars, especially as a gesture of goodwill. The cost pressure is far too high for that. Unlike with airbags, however, at least the various connections to the internet
could be consistently cut off.
But then a whole bunch of features are gone. Perhaps acceptable for current vehicles, but a disaster for autonomous vehicles. Can you appreciate everything that still needs to be considered in the development of
software-based cars?
We responded to such potential difficulties and saved money in the process, e.g. for a SIM card, which you have to pay for yourself at some point. The package, which included navigation, would have cost €6,000 just over
two years ago.
A SIM card in the car with possible external access, namely the one in the smartphone, is sufficient. Android Auto allows its content to be transferred to the vehicle's own infotainment system. That's look and feel, as if you
had ordered it from the outset.
What also worries us is how most drivers handle locking their cars. They walk away and no longer pay attention to the vehicle. We have also noticed that light signals or beeps are increasingly failing to activate during
automatic locking.
| Did you know that if you don't lock your car, you could be fined? |
The distances are also often enormous, with our car locking after an even greater distance if we walk away to the rear instead of to the side. No one seems to care if, for example, the tailgate is not closed properly and
prevents locking.
What good is a warning in the instrument cluster or in the app? The driver is often already miles away. Proper locking by pressing the corresponding button on the key and checking the vehicle's message would help.
| Our previous vehicle opened/closed the windows when the button was pressed long enough,
but our new vehicle no longer does this. |
Check your car with the help of a second person. For most people, you could rob the car without even having to disconnect the key from the ignition. Just be quick enough to grab it.
