We've actually made quite a bit of progress with ChatGPT by now, even though we only signed up for the most basic rate. In another browser, we even go about our business without logging in, asking
relatively harmless questions there, the kind we don't want to waste our credits on.
We, too, have developed something like a friendship with the AI; sometimes we have to remind ourselves not to attribute human traits to it. Would you like an example? So we ask about the exact German TÜV
fees for an electric car, and we're told the cost is €75.10.
We notice the huge difference compared to a combustion engine vehicle, which costs €166.90,a fee that TÜV Rheinland does list, unlike the fees for an electric car. The difference seems too great to us.
We become suspicious and bring this to ChatGPT's attention.
And the answer? The motorcycle table was checked by mistake; Chat GTP apologizes and thanks you for pointing this out. Well, if those aren't human traits. However, this is surprising for an AI that usually
reads and understands even long questions or comments in a matter of seconds.
Then you ask for a picture of a Hyundai Kona charging. Without any warning, the car suddenly has a charging port on the rear left side. Once the error is pointed out, the car is turned around so that the correct
connection is at the front.
It's incredible to work with ChatGPT to create an image that you had no idea about at first. However, you do have to give the AI a head start, it won't work at all without it. Crime novelists have complained
about the lack of creativity in AI.
Of course, authors have to figure out for themselves how the story continues. But in our cases, AI provides us with tools that we can use to keep moving forward on our own. ChatGPT works very well with
most of our ideas.
There is no human being to whom we would reveal our complete ignorance as openly as we would to an AI. Nowhere else would we be corrected so succinctly and painlessly. You can ask questions
right away based on what you think you know sand usually get a clear answer.
We've already used AI to write small to medium-sized C programs, even though this is unfamiliar territory for us. But on the other hand, we’ve also been working on our main program, still in Delphi 5.0,
and ChatGPT hasn’t come down hard on us or explicitly advised us not to switch everything to a 'more modern” system.
As I said, this is a tool. It's just like the Internet in general: If you don't ask, no one will tell you. ChatGPT works with you almost doggedly to find a solution. You keep posting error messages. But you have
to come up with the idea of taking a completely different approach on your own.
In any case, our experience with this AI has been almost entirely positive. Unfortunately, we can't afford the more expensive versions, so we always have to guess whether the service will be postponed by a few
hours or until the next day.
It's essential to ask about important things right at the beginning so they don't get overlooked later on. Overall, we really feel that ChatGPT is helping us in ways that are worth far more than €8 a month. Hopefully,
they won't start tightening the screws just yet. Now we really need to use AI to create an image for this chapter . . .
