Cornering lights

When talking about cornering lights, the Citroën DS 1967 (2nd generation) cannot be missing. There are the extra high beams, which are under a glass pane with the main headlights are turned by bowden cables connected to the steering. Nowadays they are electrically controlled together with the signal of the steering angle sensor (pictured below).

A difference is made between static and dynamic cornering lights. The former switches on the left or right fog lamp if the steering wheel is moved or a turn signal is activated. Precondition: Dipped beam is switched on and the speed is below 30 km/h. In some vehicles the front fog lamp lights up even when the reverse gear is engaged.

In the static cornering lights a headlamp with fixed setting is joined. The headlights of the DS above should be regarded as 'dynamic'. This includes the continuous rotation of the headlight. However, modern light suspects the curve in advance, can e.g. take route data from the navigation system and therefore make the light more independent of the steering angle.

The basic principle of the Matrix Light is an increasing amount of light sources, between which the luminous centers can be moved. This means selective dimming up and down of individual light sources. Another step continues with the laser matrix light in which each of the hundreds of thousands of mirrors can be moved up to 5000 times per second, to give it a different lighting direction. 07/16
