Bus Wheel Balancing
Rurtalbahn GmbH DN
Assignment
Some time ago this was still not a subject that was even spoken about, and it still it does not appear in every truck, and anyhow, never on the rear axle. Perhaps it has something to do with the maximum speed of
(roughly) 80 km/h, or maybe with the high weight. However, imbalance can also appear at these speeds. Therefore, coaches which travel at a higher speed and have a lighter wheel suspension, were probably the first
candidates for wheel balancing. Nowadays, coaches and trucks are balanced, at least on the front axle, when there are problems with shaky steering during fast travelling. This, by the way, with weights of up to 150g,
a little heavier than for passenger cars and also with larger graduations.
Function
In the jacked-up state, the steering knuckle of the front axle is placed on the stand, shown on the left in the above figure. This has the appropriate sensors and is connected by a cable with the tyre-direct drive (shown in
the above figure on the right). This way the mechanic can, while seated in the cab of the driven machine, see, on the display, exactly where, and how heavy the weight must be. This of course for both the static, and the
dynamic imbalance.
