Auxiliary Heating System

Assignment

With just about 5 kW, this auxilliary heating system has the job of warming up the coolant circuit, thus bringing the engine and the vehicle interior up to a certain temperature relatively quickly. It increases the safety factor in winter (the windscreen doesn't fog up) for outside parkers, reduces the wear and tear and the particularly high cold start emission which is common in this operating phase.

Function

The combustion chamber inside the device, heats up the coolant which is supplied by a pump whose job is to pump about 1 liter/min. through the cooling system, thus also heating the interior. These components and the interior ventilator are connected to a control device, which, e.g., prevents overheating.

In modern Diesel- and possibly in the near future, also in petrol direct injection engines, where sufficient energy is not available for the vehicle heating, the auxilliary heating systems can also be used for normal operating conditions. This also means that taxis, waiting for passengers, no longer have to leave the engine running. The system can be activated and supervised by remote radio control and also per cell-phone. 02/11
