Automatic Transmission - 4 wheel drive

Solution

In principle the fully automatic system of a front-wheel driven vehicle with horizontally mounted engine is no different from that of the front engine vehicle with rear-wheel drive. It's the same with an all-wheel drive in which the torque must be diverted again, by the gearbox exit in the middle of the vehicle, to the front.

In the above figure you can see the slighty inverted final drive for the front axle immediately behind the torque converter on the right. The way to the rear axle is from the exit of the automatic gearbox, through the transfer- gearbox with a Torsen-differential gear. 09/08
