The distributor type injection pump is still used today - however, with an electronically programmed injection control - as a reasonable alternative for use in smaller to mid-size Diesel engines with a maximum of six cylinders. In a construction, kept as compact as possible, it distributes the fuel , by means of a cylinder and a plunger, under high pressure, at the right time, to the individual cylinders.
The injection distributor pump has probably reached the end of it's development. It may be able to reach even higher pressures, but cannot generate an injection spray which is broken down into several parts. Thus, due to the failing post-injection, it probably won't fulfil the exhaust gas regulations for the regeneration of the particle filter. 11/10
