Body Rollover-protection

German version

Anyone who drives a convertible, would like to have nothing, or as little as possible over their heads. That's why, solidly installed roll bars are aggravating. Also the appearance of the vehicle is often spoiled by such parts. Moreover, when the roof is closed it must also fit over the roll-bars. Although vehicles nowadays, overturn substantially more seldom than previously, some form of protection against head injuries would be agreeable. The technical solution consists of two head-rests, which, in the event of an accident, are driven out in well under one second. In addition, a control device processes signals which are also available to the ABS and to the ESP. In contrast to other passive accident protectors, (Air-bags) these are not triggered by pyrotechnics but by a more or less weak spring. This is triggered when a certain angle of inclination or pitching angle is reached or, e.g., if the entire vehicle is in free-fall. In the case of the closed convertible roof, the roll bar moves only a short distance without damage, as a rule however, the roof will be torn through. 09/08
