Highway No. 1 leads from Fort Kent on the western border of Canada to Key West, an island just over bridges in the southernmost tip of Florida, nearly 4.000 kilometers long. The distance from New York covers only one half. Highways may be comparable to our federal roads, sometimes even four-lane, but not cross-free and with only a few local bypasses. Today's interstates are not available at this time.

A famous highway is the Route 66, which originally led from Chicago to California, but now exists only rudimentarily. With the speed limit of today, but shorter and easier to drive Interstates the distance from New York to Miami is just 20 hours. The Greyhound then needed the double time. One advantage of the highway is, however, you can really get out everywhere.

One is inclined to look at the topic 'energy supply' only as a current one. However, it was much more connected with the growth of industry in the thirties. A solution for the many catastrophic floods were the dams, which at that time arose in large numbers.

There was the famous Hoover Dam, which stowed the Colorado River and started in the midst of the biggest economic crisis in 1931. Numerous other projects, e.g. the Big.Thomson project have significantly changed the river and its course. But many other rivers were affected. Look at the video of the Tennessee Valley Authorities below.

Meanwhile, e.g. for environmental protection reasons, they dismantle large dams. Last but not least, worldwide experience with the breaking of dams may also play a role with e.g. at the Chinese Yangtze River in 1975 about a quarter million dead. In this context, the comparison of demolition and maintenance costs also plays a role.

Natural disasters play a greater role in America. Apart from the periodic hurricanes in the east and fires in the west, there are combinations of storms, most recently with 'Sandy' near New York. Before the last disaster in New Orleans with Hurricane 'Katrina' lay the great flood in the year 1927, where huge farmland had to be sacrificed by blowing up dams to save the city.

It always stands up. It is so different from the rest of the US. The name comes naturally from the French, which the Mississippi estuary area sold as a vested land, and when they were once there, the money for the return journey was missing. Thus, with much sweat swampland is made arable and France was created in America.05/17
