The temperature sensor delivers as a passive sensor information to the control unit about the momentary temperature of the coolant and thus of the engine.
How it works
Its resistance changes with the temperature. At a negative temperature coefficient (NTC - negative Temperature Coefficient) the ohmic resistance drops with a rise in temperature. Such a sensor is also called 'thermal resistor'. This transducer is dependent as a passive element on the tension of the control device. The tension changed by the resistance is a measure of the engine temperature.
