Camshaft Timing Chain

It seems that camshaft timing chains are being re-introduced lately into the passenger car internal combustion engines. Originally manufacturers argued that they are too loud and too costly in designing. However, now its durability and low servicing shifted into the foreground. This seems at least to compensate the higher expenditure for the enlarged case and the lubrication. In earlier days it was very often designed double, nowadays the material seems to be stable enough also for single-row chains. In spite of the increased strain, e.g., due to the pump nozzle of the diesel engine. 06/08
