Apart from a nice view of the crown wheel, this is all about the electric motor on the far left, and what it's purpose is. Mechanically, it is connected with the shifting fork visible in the foreground. This then, reaches around a shifting collar which, when activated, moves to the left, thus connecting the basket of the differential with the right-hand drive-side. The compensation is now 100% locked, a situation which should cancelled as soon as one enters a curve where the road-surface provides a good grip.
