| Different areas, different systems |
The best windscreen wiper construction is the one that covers the greatest area, with the least complexity and the lowest possible disturbance to the drivers field of vision. In the first picture, two wipers move parallel to each other across the windscreen. Below, are the same two wipers now moving in opposite directions to each other. Only later in the history of motor vehicles, the one arm wiper was introduced (picture 3). This was followed by the complicated construction of the cantilever wiper. With this method, the maximum possible wiping area, with the least possible disturbance was developed. Nevertheless, it has not comprehensively asserted itself. The windscreen areas simply differ too much.
