Function

The multi-disc wet clutch is a low-wear possibility to connect engines with relatively few torque with gearboxes which are not so sensitive in terms of a full separation. It is primarily used for two-wheeled vehicles.

How it works

In the pictures 2 and 3 the case serves for a gearwheel connection to the gearbox. The coatings are linked with it rotary-solidly through empty spaces. Between every two coatings a steel disc is positioned which is driven with its openings (see figure on top to the right) by the engine. If the whole package is subject to strain, the clutch engages. Disengaging the clutch again is sometimes difficult. This type of clutch is prone to sticking. 06/08
