Cooling Air Cooling

Comparison air stream- and blast cooling

German version

Summary: cooling

Function

The air stream cooling belongs to the outer cooling systems, making sure the heat of all critical parts of the engine is immediately handed over to the air stream.

How it works

Parts apt to heat, are designed with large surfaces (cooling fins). Air is led along these surfaces with great speed, often through special channels and/or air buffles.

Advantage

The engine becomes warm more quickly. If the engine is mounted in the middle or rear, it is not necessary to apply long pipes for cooling.

Disadvantage

The engine is felt to be more noisy than with liquid cooling. Cooling and heating are more irregular.

Application nowadays

Some motorcycles
