History

This is how a well developed break system looked like in the year 1960, there were neither disk brakes nor brake power regulators. A dual-circuit system was not yet introduced either. Thoughts about a failure of the whole circuit were simply not taken into account. Especially vehicles in the lower price segment just had overcome the cable brake with all its adjustment problems.

Pascal's Law
Pressure is distributed evenly on connected systems.

The hydraulic system makes sure that the braking power is spread absolutely equallly. The duplex-drum brake in front had easy to survey actuating forces. A bottom valve at the brake master cylinder ensured a certain pre-pressure in the system, the brake shoes were pressed a little, shortening the reaction time of the brake.
