2019 Tesla Model 3

The most important news concerns the entry-level version of Model 3, not the performance version shown above. The long-promised standard model for $35,000 is available in the USA with a delivery time of 2 to 4 weeks. A battery capacity of 50 kWh can be assumed, which is of course quite optimistic with the range of 350 km converted from miles.

Standard colour: first black, now white, otherwise $1,500 to $2,500 surcharge.

Interesting is the website evtripplanner.com, where you can plan routes with different Tesla models under all possible circumstances, e.g. also in Germany, without logging in.

Surcharge of 1,500 dollars also for other rims.

The Model 3 is of course only available in a basic version at such a low price. There is still the glass roof and the heating for the mirrors remains, but not for the seats, which are of course designed as cloth seats. For a surcharge of 2,000 dollars there are better seats and approx. 30 km more range.

In Europe, a longer waiting period for a new Model 3 is assumed. The sales shops will in future be closed except two for whole Germany. The service is to be improved, which currently still includes waiting times, difficult contact with customers and, in some cases, relatively short-term rescheduling of appointments.

Manufacturing quality and availability of spare parts have recently come under fire.

So in the future you will order even more on the Internet, in the USA with a deposit of 2,500 dollars, but you can still return the car in the first 7 days or 1000 miles. In Germany, a price including taxes of little more than 43,000 Euros is assumed, but the currently effective subsidies are still deducted.

Max. speed: 225 km/h, 0 - 96 km/h in 5,6 seconds

According to previous findings, the basic equipment in the USA is relatively complete. There is no electric seat adjustment but a steering wheel adjustment. The car is equipped with basic audio equipment and four USB sockets. And navigation with standard maps is included. The Partial Premium version includes the usual Tesla seats, improved sound and LED headlights.

Average and maximum range each cost $3,000 more.

The currently available autopilot has become cheaper with 3,000 dollars, but offers little more than a warning when leaving the lane, emergency braking and collision warning. As always, Tesla's announcements that it will be possible to drive completely autonomously, including overtaking, over the motorway from the entrance to the exit by the end of the year are exciting. There should be parking in any form, even the search by the car itself.

The consumption of the Model 3 with 'only' rear wheel drive is impressive. At ideal weather and driving conditions, it is quite possible to move the car at an average speed of 110 km/h and consume only 17 kWh per 100 km. Including possible losses during fast loading, this would correspond to a diesel consumption of less than 2 L/100km. Too bad that there is no long-range model with rear wheel drive.
