Already with the predecessor Favorit was indicated a turning point. But even more importantly for the coming events was probably the fall of the Wall and the subsequent collapse of the Eastern Alliance, the long awaited by the citizens end of the planned economy. Although that worked relatively best yet in the automotive industry in the former Czechoslovakia.

After all, the Fa. Škoda was in the car critical west also a respected manufacturer with long tradition. But with the 'Wende' investments were due, the cannot afford a relatively small manufacturer with an annual production of 200,000 vehicles. A new model was planned, that was launched by the Mayor of Prague on the Charles Bridge with Vltava water in the name of 'Felicia' (the happy) in 1994 and was then given away to a family with newly born quadruplets.



Now the names at Škoda have usually tradition, want to say, that name has existed once before. It designated after the turning away of the numerical type designation since 1959, the Coupé or Convertible derived from Octavia, see also video below. In Mladá Boleslav one could feel happy because VW the so far technical construction however not replaced, but both the production methods as well as the car itself turned upside down thoroughly. However, quite happy one became also not with VW, because one had promised a full equality to all previous parts of the Group. But as at Škoda should be built a production site similiar the famous Hall 54 in Wolfsburg, the new CEO Piëch suddenly says no. He looked more closely on the costs of both a strongly robotized production and the wages and found that such a conversion does not pay at a wage level of 10 : 1.

The new car was snatched the new daughter from the hands and a new modern plant was nevertheless built in Mladá Boleslav, now extended several times already. With the successor Fabia one even brought to market the latest technology in the form of the A-platform as the first manufacturer in the Group. 10/14
