1997 Renault Master
Here you see the Renault Master of 1997 together with the Renault Goélette (1945-65). It has probably played a major role in the reconstruction of France after the Second World War, in addition to the
Citroën Typ H. The design differences are huge between both vehicles. Nevertheless, the ratio of 1,735 kg curb weight to
1,000 payload, which dates back to 1945, has not changed so much.
The Master is completely renewed in 1997. It remains as a front-wheel drive in the class up to 3.5 tonnes, offers for the van three wheelbases, lengths and heights. Noteworthy the fiberglass leaf springs on the rear
axle. The turbodiesels now provide 59 kW (80 hp) and 84 kW (115 hp), then with Common-Rail, DOHC and 1.9L, 60 kW (82 hp) and 2.5L 16V with 84 kW (115 hp), later even more (see above).
Through the back door the rear wheel drive in the form of the Master Maxi is reintroduced as a van, chassis and double cab, but for a total weight up to 6.5 tons. The production of Master and Master Maxi reached in
2006
alone in the Batilly plant the million mark. It is still manufactured in Europe in Barcelona (ES) and Luton (GB), too.
In the period from 1999, the partial merger with Nissan. So it exists a Master version from 2002 as Nissan, vice versa and later also Nissan engines in the Master. As far as widespread as the Trafic with the Opel
Vivaro
or PSA together with Fiat, the master did not, however, the chassis frame of the larger Maxi / Mascott came from the Fiat Daily. 03/18
