The Boxster originates from a time when Porsche was not doing so well. The car is developed as a reasonable alternative to the 911 with the idea of sharing parts. Porsche turned a slightly less powerful engine together with its gearbox and axle drive by 180° and created a mid engine sports vehicle. They applied this trick before, most successfully with the 550 Spider. In praising this car, one should point out its low centre of gravity between the axes, an effect that is enlarged by the opposed cylinder engine, and of course its resulting road performance. The interior just allows space for two persons. The boot is divided. At least, open or closed, it is possible to put a roof rack.

The data above carry a clear message. The Boxster has all essential parts grouped between its axes, except the gearbox. A very powerful engine drives it forwards.Look at the tyres and be assured of an extremely driving-active construction of the wheel suspension. In addition, the weight is quite favorable for the car size and convertible design and up to the space conditions good for everyday use.

A new Porsche features new technology. Thus, the Boxster disposes of a data connection between the control units, offering recognizableprogress for driving. There is the possibility of switching to an especially sporty driving manner, allowing higher engine speeds for the automatic transmission, and at the same time lowering the chassis, other vibration damper characteristics and less support for the steering wheel. In addition, the stability control engages later.

What is typical about a Porsche? The ignition switch on the left? Even the sound has changed, since the air-cooled rough diamondsdisappeared. Nevertheless, the noise is thrilling, though a bit more civilized. But, honestly, other sports cars are able to produce thrilling sounds, too. Porsche is proud with the sound that is produced by shutting a door, the ease of the gearbox, and the speed with which the well lined folding roof closes with speeds up to 50 km/h. And all this still holds true after 10 years. In short, Porsche claims an above-average quality, and a long life expectancy. This guarantees a high trade-in value.

A specific feature is the fully galvanized car body. Of all Porsches built up until now, clearly less than half have been scrapped. Durable in spite of manual labour that creates an individual car for nearly everybody. The instruments clearly deviate from the standard, it feels as if they are pushed into each other, and this does not contribute to a clear readability. Anyway, the speedometer is also digitally readable. The outerappearance does not resemble stylish Italian design. At least, the noise level keeps low for a convertible with foldable roof. After all, a Porsche is even bought also because of his sound. In addition, even a spoiler lip extends from 120 km/h.

The engine is of an outstanding quality. It is manufactured from aluminium, partly reinforced with cast iron, resulting in a very good performance weight. It can play different roles, from well-behaved to enthusiastic. And if you look at fuel consumption a lot is possible here down to 7 liters of Super Plus per 100 kilometers. Compared to V - and in line six cylinder engines, it has a better mass balance. The hydro-bearings are not strictly necessary. There are very few vibrations in this stiff convertible body. The bizarre shape of the middle exhaust pipe became the car's extraordinary feature. It is even divided for the S-version. Interestingly, the connection of automatic transmission and engine, eg to bring quicker the engine to operating temperature or make available its braking energy.

As a result, will remain with Porsche, there is now a second model series, the has historical relations, finds its place, keeps and no longer let displace from the 911 as the series 924 ff and 944 ff.
