The cruel truth first, who wants the new 911 Targa immediately, the must buy it with all-wheel drive, so pay 7000-7500 euros more than for the two-wheel-driven certainly still appearing.

Have you only once processed this shock, the 12,000 euros more for the Targa with electric fold-away roof no longer seem so huge. However, the reduced price of about 1,000 Euros compared to the convertible then also no longer can comfort you. How expensive driving Porsche can really be, we will explain at the end by looking into the options list.

Now we enjoy once the construction of the passers usually realize more than Porsche drivers themselves. By the way, the concept is not entirely new. In the video below you can see the disappearance of the roof in a pocket below the rear hood at a 1992 Honda CRX. Incidentally, here even the rear window was to open electrically.

At Porsche, though it is not the rear hood that moves upwards, but everything above this hood up to the Targa bracket. Thus, this also includes the rear window. After all, the engine is not exposed in this way, not even temporarily. The Targa bracket contains the mechanics, with which the roof part disappears into the space above the engine.

How 'primitive' this has been handled earlier, look at the picture below. Despite the limited luggage space up front, e.g. a T-Roof was ineligible for Porsche. Instead, the Targa roof had to be compressed with a lot of power before it had space in the front luggage compartment. Incidentally, the first Targas even had a removable rear window from plastic. But these cars have become extremely rare.

Even with the new, one loses luggage compartment. Strangely enough, not only 45 liters rear, but also 10 liters up front. The slight increase of the drag coefficient one overcome, especially since the car is not increased in height, CO2 and top speed are not affected. But the 100 kg extra weight could smart, especially the convertible comes off again a bit more favorable.

Anyway at Porsche, everything has become much more noble. It's best to go with counted money or bank account to the dealer. Do not do that and bring with a lot of time, then you will come out although completely happy, but rather 'plucked' out again. Need an example: How about having distance radar 30-210 km/h for 2,320 euros? Or the active suspension control with roll stabilization system for mere 3,213 euros?

In any case, now the will to save already gone. And since we spend (have to) so much money for the all-wheel , how about the variable distribution of drive torques for favourable 1,309 euros, after all, with 'mechanical locking rear differential with asymmetrical locking effect (22% draught, 27% thrust)'. Later, you will regret not having added this at this point.

After an hour of professional discussion and further € 1,594 for the Sport Chrono package, well-suited to the above extras already selected, you finally come to the colours with which you actually should have started. No, according to a special custom color for 4165 euros you have no sense, especially because at least that means 6 months of delivery time. We are saving and only afford us a special colour for 2,653 euros.

A super sports car of 2014 has no LED headlights as standard? Necessarily this must be changed for 2,832 euros, otherwise the car is already out of date before it is run in. By the way, as sporty as you have selected the extras here, what do you think of the pickup in Leipzig (1,059 euros)? You are accompanied by experienced instructors on a FIA certified race track, of course, not with your new car, but a similar type.

Actually, however, we were stopped at the colour. So that we had only met step 1 of the proposed chronology of Porsche. The following are wheel design, interior materials and colours and particularly important, the individualization. Whether the buyer really realized that he has already exceeded 140,000 euros? After all, a 'simple' 911 costs 90,700 euros, a Cayman for similar driving pleasure 'only' 51,385 euros. The pleasure of open-top driving is here once again more than 2,000 euros cheaper in the shape of the Boxster. 01/14
