Setra: 'Big heart for small buses'

It highly towers above its forefather of 1955. Nevertheless, both are regarded as compact buses in their time. Exactly from the front it would also be difficult to classify, because the buses of the 500 series differ in different lengths and the number of axles. This here is the shortest with 'only' 41 seats, case of particular comfort desire (5 stars) 32. If it is delivered with optional rear entry, at least 3 passenger places get lost.

Of course, there are other interior finishings, e.g. a central entrance with toilet at the height of the passenger compartment or a stand-up kitchen respectively club corner in the rear. Then, for example, 6 comfortable seats are arranged around a table plus chests of drawers in the corners. Despite the price one imagines the compact bus also suitable for club trips or business meetings. As with the train are possible even 220V connections at the individual seats. Nearly standard is a USB port with 10.5 W.

An important message for bus travelers: Immediately (2015) are prescribed in new coaches emergency braking and lane assistants. Important here is that how far away is not only warned, but also actively intervened in the brake. However, will probably be demanded a higher braking force only from 2018, so that rear-end collisions can not be completely avoided at present. Already for longer time exists the ABS function with anti-roll effect.

Of course, the S 511 is the most manoeuvrable of the whole series. It has took over also the exceptional drag coefficient for a bus. What brings us to the drive (bottom picture). The forebear shown above had 66 kW (90 hp) and thus achieved also 100 km/h, at least on level ground. However, it offered 'only' place for 26 persons. The S 511 can show its superiority here with the 4.5-fold performance in spite of its height

It adheres to strict limits with its consumption and it corresponds to the drastically tightened Euro 6 in the NOX sector. More than 10,000 euro surcharge for that, one consider to be realistic. Here can help the optional PPC system that together with the automatic system adjusts the gear changes to the topography using GPS data.

Green Coach Award 2014

Otherwise, there's a few particularities, such as that for the engine compartment, a fire alarm system is installed, when reversing the surrounding is enlightened, the rear view camera has an integrated washing system and the toilet also rinses with water. 11/15
