The first generation CLS was not exactly one of the aesthetic highlights within the Mercedes range. It will be seen if the later added Shooting Brake in its newest design can substantiate its existence in addition to the T- model better.

The third generation of the CLS succeeds effortlessly, because it has clearly moved away from the C-Class (pictures above). If the C-Class, including the coupé, is too intrusive, it automatically turns to the CLS. Maybe the next generation will have a simpler but more elegant alternative to the dashboard.

With the engines it is exactly the opposite as with the bodies. There are many with the same displacement, z.T. even the same for diesel and gasoline. In the bodies, the number of variants even with different wheelbase is hard to see. The CLS was obviously the obstetrician for the recently four-door coupés such as Audi A7 or Aston Martin Rapide.

We omit all features not related to direct driving of a vehicle and rush ourselves, for example. to the more than 650 m long ULTRA RANGE high beam. For the larger diesel engine, the variable valve timing and the petrol engine, the 48V system worth mentioning, briefly 250 Nm and 16 kW (22 hp).

The exclusive eligibility of the more powerful engines including four-wheel drive is not enough for the Daimler superiors. Only in the first year there is the model 'Edition 1', which still advances the AMG Line. We will see if e.g. the nappa-leather-related dashboard does not appear later in any of the many points in the surcharge list. 12/17
