2016 Mercedes Crashtest-Center

Decisive at Daimler's new, gigantic test room without columns are the dimensions. With 90 x 90 meters, it can already be shown that without a specific direction can be tested here. Not only CarToX but also CarToCar collisions play a role.

Accidents at crossroads can also be adjusted, crash tests with trucks and buses included. The new building measures 273 x 172 meters. Daimler has to defend the reputation as the first in Europe in 1959 to have started systematically with crash tests, then still outside.

At first the number of approximately 900 possible crash tests on the new system appears still very high, but if for a newly designed vehicle up to 150 crash tests are necessary, which does not include submodules on sleds. Of these, up to 1700 are possible every year in the new center.

The proximity to other sites of development at the Sindelfingen plant is also advantageous. The Crashtest Center benefits from the waste heat of the neighboring climate wind tunnel, but also the short distances to the 'normal wind tunnel', the new driving simulator, the integration center for drives and the technology center driving safety. The new crashtest system is now safe for the future, because it will also be needed for electromobility. 10/16
