2012 Mercedes Antos

Key in credit card format

Like his brothers Actros, Axor and Atego, he comes from the same assembly lines at the Wörth plant. This shows the degree of rationalization in production, despite a wealth of variants that is far greater in trucks than e.g. in cars. In the sequence mentioned, it is to be classified between Actros and Axor.

Thought for the 'heavy distribution traffic', there is his cab only available in two lengths, the longer at most with folding bunk. Also, it is located lower, always has a motor tunnel and also, for example. in front of the driver's seat no standing height. The smallest engine needs the least motor tunnel height, but despite the higher engine speed, it is the most modern of the three (see data block).

From the front, the 2012 Antos is very similar to the Actros (picture above). Four radiator fins can occur in both, otherwise it is rather less in the Antos. The headlights are designed simpler in the Antos. Its cab is as wide as the narrower of the Actros. Because of an additional cooling unit at the front it is also available with lower height (picture below).

In addition to the optional air-sprung front axle, one or two rear axles with three wheelbases each are possible, both for the tractor unit and for the long chassis, but with a total of eleven wheelbases. In addition to the leading axle or trailing axle, there are also the latter with twin tires(!). Even the vehicle length can be set in increments of 50 mm.

In addition to the well-being in the cabin, above all the assistants make the driver's working life easier. Safety is always prior, in the picture above it is already addressed by the turn-off assistant. Or the active Brake Assist, ABS, EBS, Stability and Lane Keeping Assist. From 2015, there will even be fuel savings through topology-based cruise control.

No, the Antos does not have gearshift paddles. Nevertheless, it is switched by a lever on the steering wheel (picture 3 above). Very convenient for frequent maneuvering in distribution traffic is the control of the crawl speed only by brake peda and the immediately possible change from forward to reverse. 01/18
