2017 BharatBenz - 5 years

The plant is located in Oragadam (state of Tamil Nadu) not far from Chennai at the east coast of India, on the same latitude as Bangalore. Since 2012, Daimler has been producing heavy trucks and, since 2015, buses specifically for the local market, but also exports to other Asian markets, to Africa and even to South America.

Renault/Nissan also has a factory nearby.

The five years are celebrated, because the Daimler manager have the feeling that they have gradually overwelmed the initial, enormous difficulties. 55,000 trucks in five years are not so much for European conditions. The slightly larger Daimler truck factory in Wörth produces 470 trucks per day, the 55,000 cars in about half a year.

Chennai is considered the center of the Indian suppliers.

Daimler is nevertheless satisfied and proud of a market share of now more than 10 percent. BharatBenz is now one of the top three in the Indian heavy truck market. However, Tata is the biggest manufacturer with more than 60 percent market share. After all, this year, BharatBenz will be able to switch to two-shift operation. 10/17
