Even at competitors there are three different wheelbases with appropriate lengths and three heights, corresponding electronics mostly, depending on the release date. We leave aside the electronic assistants such as start-stop (+250 €) and self-restraint to max. 110 km/h. We come directly to the unique feature of this Ford Transit, the choice between front-and rear-wheel drive. So you can buy (almost) the same car with front engine transversely or longitudinally. It is even possible four-wheel drive, but only with longitudinal engine. It is one of the rare occasions, to analyze a little both fundamentally various types of drive in the same vehicle. Comparing the data from the Ford brochure, one comes to strange results. You can expect a significant difference in kerb weight. However, that this is all the greater the shorter the wheelbase is still very surprising. Perhaps this is because of the 8 centimeter higher roof of the rear-wheel drive, whereby this will still have 10 centimeter less cargo space height. Thus created are approx. 230 kg more weight, the incidentally results to 30 g/km more CO2 emissions, but also because of the higher roof. As an additional cost for the same engine incurs over 1,800 €. There already will be clear the advantage of the front-wheel drive. 06/12
