The car demonstrates the proud feeling of the sixties. Special commercial aims are achieved. At Ford something happens, at least for this firm rare, even that a model directly builds on the previous and develops its style further. The P5-design is so successful that later will be fall back to parts thereof after failures with the successor, eg the direction indicator after the bumpers.

In addition Ford is increasing with this model in the buyer's favour because at that time hardly a vehicle is offered in so many varieties. This affects not only the body and the engines, but also the power transfer. The engines however, there are different opinions. During the six-cylinder V is recognized as valuable and helps many clients to a cheap luxury model, the question remains of thesense of the V-four cylinder, especially in the beginning Ford also has quality problems with the Ford engine.

This is not detrimental to the success of the Taunus P5. Only the onset of recession in the late 60's does this, but until then it is 1964 still far and it will be for other manufacturers as well. From the trade press it is - because being little conspicuous - neither particularly praised nor criticized. Its chassis is said to be of good nature, in running costs however it is not quite so good. There are light operating malfunctions in the electrical system, the center mounted gearshift and steering, all at this model new or change constructions.

After the very good sales results of its predecessor, the defects can not weaken the sales of this model. On the contrary, where has been until now a middle class car with six-cylinder driving power. One goes to compete with Mercedes, but at much lower prices. And there is at this time no really convincing suspension, too. Ford on the cautious way to the upper class with attractive design and a great variety. Even the comparison with the Opel 6 it keeps standing.
