Its rivals are the Renault 4CV and the VW Beetle, all rear engines, only the Beetle air cooled and with space saving Boxer engine. That this is possible with a four-cylinder in-line engine is shown by the Fiat 600. The liquid cooler stays rear, by a mechanically driven fan supplied with air. The result is one in front through spare wheel, fuel tank and battery narrow trunk, added by place behind the fold (!) rear seat back rest.
About in the the time still frequent, rear-hinged doors also the rear seats can be achieved relatively easily. Compare the length with the current vehicles you know why, for example the seat backs are upholstered relatively thin. The Multipla (Fig. 2 above) top it, extended forward slightly, to offer three rows of seats or alternatively more storage space.
