GTO stands for Grand Tourismo Omologato and indicates that at least 100 copies of this same model are going to be produced. In reality, the by far lower number of copies is supplemented with former models. In addition, the collector's value of this model is grossly intensified by the different design, which falls under the responsibility of Bizzarrini, and not Pinin Farina.
The styling looks almost English. Solid knowledge from the wind tunnel is used, too. The first model even has sealable openings below the bonnet and later on below the air intakes for higher speeds. In front below the headlights air is derived for cooling the brakes. In the rear a spoiler prevents too much lift at the rear axle. Although just few vehicles are built in three years, they clearly differ according to the production year. On top in the figure the vehicle stems from the last series.
The vehicle is especially successful, also on the long distance. This ends together with the halting of the front engines and the resemblance of the formula 1. Ferrari finally changes to that racing sport category.
