Cosworth 10

Thus, after 1980 the ownership relations of the growing concern changed. Keith Duckworth sold his shares to United Engineering Industries. There are now two new board members, Harvey Fox and Mike Costin. Duckworth is now only responsible for the development and the racing business at Cosworth, Vickers is responsible for the operative side.

This proved to be a difficult time for Duckworth, he no longer deals independently with other managers, whose world is actually foreign to him. On top of which, instead of recovering his helicopter-licence, he became even more ill, after a second heart attack he had to undergo a complicated bypass operation. In 1988 he withdrew finally and was replaced by Costin.

Costin himself only stayed on for a further two years, because the company was sold, for 163 million pounds, to the Vickers concern. Would you like to know what the two parts were worth? In 1998 Audi bought the operative section for 117 Million Pounds and Ford the development- and racing section. Thereby, that wasn't quite the end of the story, in 2005 Mahle bought Audi's share. For a long time they had been working in cooperation with each other in the foundry area. It is planned there, inter alia, the production of range extenders.
