1938 Cadillac V12

Read here about the Cadillac with V16 engine.

The Cadillac V16 was created in four years of work by the designer Owen Milton Nacker and his team. They combined two inline eightcylinders 45°. And, although Cadillac had only V8 in the program at that time, they may have taken it from other companies in the GM Group. It existed as SV (Oldsmobile, Pontiac) and as OHV (Buick) version. Nacker naturally based on the latter, and even adds hydraulic tappets.

The V12 was constructed almost simultaneously by separating the first and last two cylinders. Together with the V8-Verson it pulls the rug from under the feet of the V16. They all did their work in the same, prestigious long engine compartment. And the market for such luxury products is difficult because of the colossal losses at the Black Friday 1929.

At numerous finely executed details you can see the influence of art deco style. The three are of course the top models, which had to compete against the company Packard for example and thus to secure or increase the prestige of the brand. On total sales of Cadillac they did not even made 2 percent of all three together, the V12 significantly more compared to the V16 because of half price. 08/16
