 2025 BYD Dolphin Surf
Recommended: Small motor with large battery . . . |
In China, the BYD Group already overtook VW last year. In Germany, this is likely to take quite a while, if at all, especially as there is still the threat of punitive tariffs on cars delivered to the EU.
They'll probably get around this by producing such cars in Europe. €23,000 is already a favorable price, though, especially if it drops to just under €20,000 by the end of June. Will they still make money from
that?
It is emphasized that the Dolphin Surf was designed as an electric car from the outset, thus started from a blank sheet of paper. As arguably the second-largest battery manufacturer in the world, BYD can naturally benefit
from its own resources.

No, the new model has nothing to do with the Dolphins from BYD that we already know. It's unclear whether, with its 4 meters in length, we should classify it as belonging to BYD's A-segment or the B-segment.
The imaginative cladding of the wheel cut-outs is deceptive; the car actually sits low to the road like a car. It's incredible how the front end of such a short car can blend into the windshield with almost no crease.
At the rear, a large portion of the windshield remains untouched in the car wash because of the massive spoiler. In fact, there are neither wipers nor a cover for the trunk.
Only two people can sit in the back, but admittedly quite comfortable. The rear seatback is split down the middle accordingly. In the front, even the cheapest trim level features a rotating 10.1" center display, which is by no
means standard at this price point.
This isn't necessarily apparent in the workmanship and materials. The controls are only partially replicated from larger BYD models. There's even a cylindrical button combination.
