2016 BMW X1

The X1 has prevailed and will probably grow in the registration figures with the new model from 2015, especially small SUVs (pardon SAV) are in vogue. With the registration approvals it was last year par with the Audi Q3, far ahead of the Mercedes GLA. However, significantly more VW Tiguan were sold, much more as from the three together.

It is the second generation of the X1 from 2009 on, fundamentally changed with now the platform of the 2 series Tourer. Instead of a longitudinally arranged engine with rear wheel drive and branch to the front wheels after the transmission there is now a transverse engine with front wheel drive with extra shaft to the rear. So don't be surprised if someone introduces the X1 to you with front-wheel drive.

The success of these measures could be greater, but is quite noticeable. The new X1 is nearly 4 cm shorter, has 9 cm less wheelbase and lost 10-liter tank capacity depending on the engine. At the same time it has become 7 cm higher and has gained so much luggage space, almost reaching the without extras 8600 euros more expensive X3. It is also 10 km/h faster than this with the same engine.

But to find 'the same engine' is difficult, because those of the X3 increase up to the region of six cylinders, while the X1 descends to three cylinders. This one is available with manual and automatic, but not with all-wheel drive. Front-wheel drive is only possible with the smallest diesel. However, the whole model range would be better with a direct shifting transmission than one with the converter automatic even if it has a gear less. 06/16
