Looking at it from behind, one could regard its engine together with the indicated diffuser and the two exhaust ends as at least a V8. However, times are changing. The big M-models have to dispense with the V-10 and M3 and M4 fall back on the series of inline six-cylinder. Whereby one has the impression that engineers can bring out nearly every performance, even from this.


With the M2 coupé it seems to be more a problem of the distance. Because you must not get too close to the at least 16,000 euro more expensive M4 coupé. Anyway, platform and chassis are almost identical. The M4, whether sedan, coupé or convertible, is only approx. 20 centimeters longer and has 12 centimetres longer wheelbase. Case of the 1 series and 2 series the wheelbases are identical, but the coupé is 14 centimeters longer.

The engine performance maintains this distance with 45 kW (61 kW), but the torque would approach on 50 Nm. However, one allows the M2 the 500 Nm for a limited time only (boost). With charging almost anything is possible nowadays, the M4 with two Mono Scroll and the M2 with a Twin Scroll. The M4 A also has a dual-clutch transmission, with steep 3,900 euros similarly expensive.


So, who likes M-Performance, the 2 series is the best solution. In addition, it is still the latest creation of BMW and has with its larger air intakes definitely enough overtaking prestige on the highway. It should be clear, however, that with this model arises a conflict between saving and driving pleasure. Have a look at only the cross-sectional area and especially the drag coefficient, which is indeed indicated even dependent on the tyre equipment more recently. 10/15
