2019 BMW at the IAA
They're in the difficult phase of changing their executive chair. Where is BMW heading? In the segment of electrified automobiles with pure electric or plug-in hybrid drive, BMW describes itself as the market leader for
new registrations in Germany. But if you have visited the VW stand before, this will soon change.
However, there is also a high risk there through special emphasis on the purely electric drive. At BMW, it is more likely to be on a scientific basis which concept promises the greatest CO2 reduction. Not
sure yet, it seems that in addition to vehicles with a pure combustion engine that will continue to be produced, three different technologies will also be used.
And the hydrogen fuel cell drive is not only mentioned. At the IAA 2019 a prototype is presented under the name BMW i Hydrogen NEXT in cooperation with Toyota. Please notice that BMW, as a premium supplier, is
going a different way than VW, where this technology has been shelved for the time being.
Is this a possible approach to remain flexible and to react to customer wishes first? This is dangerous as well, because if the demand for pure e-cars should increase quite abruptly one day, it will probably not be so
easy to quickly increase supply and production in this area.
No, besides the 330e and the for 2020 planed iW3 BMW does not offer many new innovative models for the series. Concept Vision 4 is, after all, a pleasant prospect, albeit 'only' with a combustion engine. It turns the
previous 4 Series into an independent model. Note how the typical BMW kidney is becoming more and more the designers' plaything, in this case perhaps a bit too aggressive..09/19
