BMW 503

The 503 was introduced in 1955 and its technical relationship with the 507 was not visible at first glance by the bouffant body - also designed by Albrecht Graf Goertz. Its nose has been compared with the most distinctive of the French President De Gaulle. It had no B-pillars and fully retractable side windows.

Under the body was clearly visible the origin from 502, mainly by the aluminum V8. The vehicles were produced in the Munich factory in manual labor, which made them relatively expensive. In addition, the export to America was sluggish. All together, the number of cars sold was too low during the 4 years to make a profit, in spite of its high price.

The first German series car with hydraulic operation of the soft top and the windows

Because of a lack of workload the body was manufactured at the Munich plant.
