Other cars up to that date are based on a reproduction. The 303 with six cylinder engine was the first own product of BMW. The 315 features a four cylinder engine, which is 400 RM cheaper. The 3/20 is also one the first own products of BMW.

Besides the frame the rear independent suspension is striking. Also the engine is clearly improved. The engine does not feature side valves any more, and it has a higher performance, thus standing out against the original. The vehicle turns out so well that it receives the Concours d'Elegance in the first year in Baden-Baden.

Although the vehicle name contains the abbreviation 'AM' (produced in Munich), the vehicle is, nevertheless, produced in Eisenach. The car body comes at first from Mercedes in Sindelfingen and later, as well as earlier with the Dixi sedan, it is produced by Ambi-Budd in Berlin. The factory in Munich keeps on building motorcycles, however, contributed the new engine.
