The Auto Union racing car type C was applied against the famous Silver Arrows from Mercedes in the years 1934 - 1939. It had, in contrast to them, for the first time a mid-engine rear almost like today's Formula 1. It was designed by Ferdinand Porsche, the double-trailing arm front suspension with torsion bar suspension has some resemblance to that of the slightly later VW Beetle.
