Messrs. Ahrens and Mantzel develop on the chassis, frame and body of the DKW 1000 S, successful in touring car- and rally-sport, a streamlined lightweight fiberglass shell and let built two vehicles at Dannenhäuser & Stauss in Stuttgart. After very successful (world-) record runs this car will be the first sports cars of the Auto Union produced after the war.

The factory supports by delivery the correlative vehicle parts initially the production and sale. The car is primarily in U.S. a success. However, changes two more times the manufacturer of the plastic chassis, before even the factory withdraws its support. With the Auto Union 1000 Sp one has the 'successor' yet ready.
