The company Alfa just survived a bankruptcy and the takeover by Nicola Romeo, who had earned quite some money - amongst other things by the production of war sensitive goods. The First World War had ended, and Alfa attempted to renew and extend its modest prewar racing success fame. Thanks to sufficient funding, the first Alfa Romeo originated. No less than Enzo Ferrari was the driver and with him the Targa Florio victory in the first year was a fact. Alfa's racing career began.
