Cross-ply tyre
Assignment
Apart from the tread, to also stabilise the flanks of the tyre in such a way as to allow maximum grip on the road surface the when the tyre is at an angle to the road, e.g., when a motorcycle banks into a curve.
Function
Synthetic textile fabric is laid diagonally in different layers, from one bead to the other. The flanks have almost the same amount of strengthening as the tread. The flanks of the cross-ply tyre, in comparison to the radial-ply tyre, are laid out harder.
Application
As a purely cross-ply tyre or a combination of cross-ply- and radial tyre, they are now found only on two-wheeled vehicles. 05/10
